About Heather Thompson
Heather has been teaching since 1992. She teaches all levels, age 4-adult. She was classically trained by Professor Lenora Brown and Dr. Gwendolyn Mok, both concert pianists. Heather received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Utah and is currently a member of the Music Teacher's Association of California. This membership allows her to enter her students in state and county recitals, evaluations, and award programs such as Certificate of Merit. She has extensive performing experience, including a solo performance with BYU's Chamber Orchestra. Heather tailors her teaching to each student's unique learning style and personality. She teaches with a classical approach, but allows students to explore their interests in popular music. Her students perform in 2-3 recitals per year and record onto personal CDs.


Mission Statement
I love to play the piano and I hope to help you find the joy in music! I truly believe that piano lessons will help you in many areas of life including self-discipline, confidence, and education.

Musical Focus

• Performing: How to memorize and perform pieces well.
• Note Reading: Flashcard drills & Notespeller books improve sight reading.
• Technique: Develop strong, fast fingers.
• Theory: How music is constructed.
• Music History: Musical periods, styles, and composers.

Opportunities

• Recitals: 2-3 recitals per year.
• Certificate of Merit Program: Yearly evaluations at UCSC. Students work toward a medallion and play in county recitals. This looks great on any college application!
• Teaching Guidance: Heather has helped many of her students become piano teachers.

Lessons can be fun!

• Games: Heather has many fun music games that teach rhythm, theory, definitions, etc.
• Prizes: Students can participate in practice competitions to win money & prizes.
• Ribbons: Students receive ribbons for performing in recitals.
• Fun Music: Seasonal, jazz, & popular music sparks everyone's interest.
• CD Recordings: Students record onto their own personal CD's and create yearly collections.
